No Blanket Ban on Firecrackers, SC Imposes Conditions on Use and Sale

The Supreme Court today refused a blanket ban on the sale and use of firecrackers across the country. The Court has banned online sale of firecrackers, restraining e-commerce websites from carrying out its sale.

A bench of Justice A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan which had reserved its verdict earlier on August 28. The Supreme Court also imposed timing restrictions on burning crackers during celebrations. For Diwali, people will be allowed to burn crackers between 8 PM and 10 PM. However, on New Year and Christmas, the period has been further narrowed down to from 11:45 PM to 12:15 PM.
